What will happen to Infocenter beyond 2010?
This year, it's 20 years since Infocenter opened. It was initiated by Ronneby Municipality and was introduced as the "library without books", but of course it neither was or is. But the conscious focus on digital resources led to numerous visits from all over the country. In 1991, Infocenter got the first librarian employed by the university college and nowadays Infocenter is mainly operated by BTH. Will there be a future for Infocenter after BTH moves in mid-2010 then?

Last week (week 11) Ronneby Municipality took a target decision to, among other things, develop a "learning environment for higher education especially at a distance" on Soft Center.
Since January five distance students, studying to become teachers at the University of Kalmar, meet at Infocenter. Here, they follow lectures, use the group rooms and have their exams. Later this spring, an additional number of students on short distance courses will follow their video conference lectures here.

In the autumn another teacher education program in cooperation with the University of Kalmar will start, and so do some training courses for staff in preschool classes and after-school recreation centres.
In a room adjacent to Infocenter Ronneby kommun, BTH and Arbetsförmedlingen shortly will start counseling on education and work. An activity that gradually can become a part of a powerful and well-visited learning center.
As a municipal employee at Infocenter, I'm watching over developments with great interest. And in light of the above, I have some confidence that after all, there is a future for Infocenter beyond 2010.
