Current bibliometrics
Bibliometrics project at BTH
Since spring 2008 a strategic bibliometrics project is led by the university library. The project goal is to improve the skills of bibliometric methods among the library staff but also to offer bibliometric support to researchers and other staff at the university who may be interested in statistics on the institutions research production.
During the project period, two people is gaining bibliometric competence through courses, visits and conferences. They are training, in turn, their colleagues but will also be skilled enough to support the university 's researchers with easier bibliometric measurements and information and be able to supply more complex analysis prepared by contact or by collaboration with specialists at other universities. The university library will by this project take an active part in the national and international bibliometric field.
Future research funding based on bibliometrics
Bibliometrics, which is a relatively young science, has come under discussion just last month, with the proposition that future research funds should be based on the indicators external resources and publications / citations. The latter indicators - quantity measure (the universitys scientific production/output in relation to the subject field) and quality measure (citations per publication in relation to the subject field avarage) are based on bibliometric methods. Together, the two indicators generate a "quality value" which is the basis for future funding to researchers in Sweden.
Explanation of the method are in SOU 2007:81 and Prop. 2008/09: 50.
