Books
The library catalogue
The Blekinge Institute of Technology Library catalogue is a catalogue of the 35, 000 titles owned by our two libraries: Gräsvik and Piren. Out of those titles about 14, 000 are in English.
The library catalogue contains mostly of printed books, but you can also find journals, a few e-books and other media types.
LIBRIS
Libris is a national union catalogue which contains information on the material found in Swedish research and special libraries. Here you will find references for printed books, e-books, journals, e-journals, articles, maps, sheet music and more.

Besides the BTH library catalogue and LIBRIS there are other library catalogues which can be of interest, such as Karlsruhe Virtual catalogue and WorldCat. Use the link below for more examples.
Arrangement of books
SAB
The books at the BTH library are arranged according to the Swedish classification system SAB. SAB stands for "Sveriges Allmänna Biblioteksförening" (the Swedish Library Association).
The SAB system has a tree structure where each individual subject is represented by a shelf mark. A shelf mark is a code which consists of one or several letters which represent a particular subject. The first letter of the shelf mark represents the main subject, e.g. the letter V stands for "medicine".
If there are further letters after the first one, it is a subdivision to the main subject. For example the shelf mark Ve stands for "general medicine" and Vep for "oncology".
DDC
The library is in the process of changing classification system from SAB to the internationally most widely used system DDC, which stands for Dewey Decimal Classification. DDc is based on numbers and not letters, as SAB. The Dewey-shelves are placed near the entrance in the library at Gräsvik.
All new books are classified in Dewey, which means that books within the same subject can be find in both systems. When using the library catalogue searching for a book, be carful and note which system is used to avoid spending time at the wrong shelf.
