GSIL specializes in the ongoing development of theory, methods and practice in the design and development of game systems, interactive simulation and visualisation systems, digital fabrication, and interaction concepts and technologies.

GSIL is a new research group that held its formative kickoff meeting on 5 May 2009. The group incorporates researchers from six previously existing research groups and incorporates research themes including methodologies for design, game and interaction design, artificial intelligence, Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), and new paradigms for information technologies (e.g. ubiquitous computing, wearable and mobile technologies, user adaptive systems, robotics).

In general, GSIL research may be considered from two perspectives:

1. scientific and empirical studies of human/machine system interaction in order to develop systemmatic and grounded understanding of the needs, affects and consequences of system use.

2. technology-driven innovation in game, simulation, visualisation, digital fabrication and interactive system concepts, mechanics, interaction, systems, supporting technologies, development processes and applications.
