An industry PhD can be described as a graduate student who is employed by a company or the like and carries out the main part of their research there. In addition to the employment the PhD takes PhD-courses at a graduate level at Blekinge Institute of Technology who also supervises the research.
Normally the student to receive full pay from the company, but industry PhDs may be part of a cooperation between the university college and businesses. In these cases BTH is responsible for the entire or a part of the salary and the student is wholly or partly on leave from his employment with the company or the equivalent.
The research is discussed in consultation between the student, university and company.
