The vice Chancellor decides every year the starting and ending dates of each semester at BTH. The academic year is divided into 2 semesters and 4 study periods (läsperiod) The dates are as follow.
Academic year 2009-2010
Autumn semester 2009:
31st of August until 17th January (Week 36-02)
Study period 1 31/8 - 1/11
Study period 2 2/11 - 17/1
Spring semester 2010:
18th of January until 6th of June (Week 03-12)
Study period 3 18/1 - 28/3
Study period 4 29/3 - 6/6
Academic year 2010-2011
Autumn semester 2010
30th August until January 16th (Week 35-02)
Study period 1 30/8 - 31/10
Study period 2 1/11 - 16/1
Spring semester 2011
17th January until 5th June (Week 03--22)
Study period 1 17/1 - 27/3
Study period 2 28/3 - 5/6
Holidays
Note that there is no official Christmas break in Swedish universities. The autumn semester runs from August-January. There will be no classes during the Christmas week, but you might have classes as late as the 23rd of December and your first exam or seminar already on the 4th of January. Each teacher plans his/her own schedule for every course.
