Patient safety influenced by communication failure
On Tuesday 10 January 2012, Kerstin Ådahl defended her doctoral thesis titled "On Decision Support in Participatory Medicine supporting Health Care Empowerment" in the research subject Applied Health Technology at Blekinge Institute of Technology, BTH.
This doctoral thesis within BTH's new research area Applied Health Technology focuses on how the gaps in communication and information flows are relevant to patient safety. The thesis focuses on how information that is missing and thus affects diagnostic decisions can arise, and how such misses can have devastating consequences for the patient. The patient's role as both passive and active carrier of information is in focus and methods to collect patient data and highlight these before every decision with the help of decision support systems are analyzed.
