The research at BTH is organised within four schools and one centre. However, research groups and projects exist both within and across the organisational boundaries.

The overall responsibility for the quality and direction of the research at BTH lies with the Faculty Board. Among the board's tasks are academic staff recuitment, Ph. D. students admission and to evaluate Ph. D. programmes.
