Development project: National University of Rwanda

BTH has since 2003 cooperated with the national university of Rwanda (NUR) within the Sida-funded project for education, research and development. The cooperation contains three parts; establishing a mastersprogramme in ICT, support and collaboration regarding the library function and developing the IT-infrastructure at NUR

Mastersprogramme in ICT

The goal of the mastersprogramme is to support and carry out a mastersprogramme in ICT with the objective that the staff of NUR will eventually be able to conduct the education on their own. In this way NUR will become self-supporting with lecturers and teachers in the mastersprogramme. Furthermore the goal is to provide Rwanda with highly qualified labour and researchers within ICT who can work in the private sector aswell as the public government.

Library support

The goal of the Library support at NUR is to offer better access to suitable information for the library users at NUR. This will be done by updating and renewing the selection of books at the library, procurement of e-journals, purchasing of computer equipment and education in how to search for information for the librarians.

IT-infrastructure

There has been a great need for an upgrade of the IT-infrastructure. BTH has therefore been involved to develop and upgrade the IT-infrastructure at NUR. This will increase access to computers for students, researchers and lecturers. The connection to internet has been improved. Advanced education within network- and system administration has been conducted. BTH has helped expand the wireless network, applied a Linux-based firewall and implemented a system with windows logins for the computers to increase the security of the system and make administration easier.
