About India
India, with its approximately 1.1 billion inhabitants, is the second most densely populated country in the world, after China. It is the seventh largest country in area. Its official name is the Republic of India.
India is a federal republic consisting of 28 states and seven union territories. India is often called "the world's largest democracy".
India is a multireligious, multilingual, and multiracial society. India has experienced strong economic growth, but there are vast differences between highly industrialized and poor areas.
The growth area, which forms a triangle covering the cities of Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, with which Blekinge cooperates, is particularly strong in IT and telecom, though other industries are also large and well-developed.
Several hundred languages are used in India today, 22 of which are official.
