The first law of thermodynamics:
The total energy in the universe is constant and can thus be neither annihilated nor created. Energy can only be transformed into other forms.
The second law of thermodynamics:
All energy in the universe degrades irreversibly. Thus differences between energy forms must decrease over time (entropy in a closed system always increases).
