As the title says, Mumbai- The bicycle friendly city, the aim and objective
of this study is to improve the situation for cyclists in Mumbai.
In order to concretize the main objective has six focus areas developed
to be viewed as the most important aspects of what makes a
city bicycle friendly.
A smaller area of Mumbai City has been chosen as planning area in
which inventories have been done to clarify the conditions to investigate
how improvements can be done for the bicycle traffic. To get
a deeper understanding of the planning area’s structure and what
its residents think about cycling, an analysis has also been done to
get a good understanding over the traffic situation.
The study has resulted in a plan proposal with actions and recommendations
based on local site conditions for how the bicycle traffic
could be improved. The plan proposal consist of everything from
more overall solutions down to detail level with design and dimensions.
One can also see the study as a kind of “tool” that can be used as a
bicycle manual for how to approach when improving for the bicycle
traffic in other sites.
