The emergence of Internet and the World Wide Web is of major importance in providing cheap, easily accessible information services. PROMISE (Personal Mobile Traveller and Trafffic Information Service) is a development project within EU Telematics Applications Programme, addressing the provision of traveller and traffic information suitable for the mobilej user. The architecture has been designed around GSM as the communications bearer, but in principle is applicable to any cellular network technology. The aim of this master thesis is to develop a Value Added Servide Provider (VASP) application, according to the Promise Concept. The primary role of the VASP is to create Valeu Added Services from differnt Content Providers on the Internet. The services that the VASP supplies, are based on the principle of making maximum use of the limited capability in the GSM network. This report comprises a general introduction to mobile communications and the background of the PROMISE project, followed by a detailed description of the analysis, planning and construction of the VASP. The report ends with a result analysis and an appendix comprising a presentation of the implemented services.
