Titel / Title:	A Wilde Society´s Female Oppression in Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray
Abstrakt Abstract:
Populärvetenskaplig beskrivning / Popular science summary:	The Picture of Dorian Gray was first published in 1891, at the end of the Victorian era, in a conventional time adhering to strict moral principles. The women in the novel are set in a time when the conservative lifestyle was undergoing changes, but in an England where history clearly was, and still is, of significant importance. In this essay I look deeper into the female characters of the novel and their life situation, a situation that can tell you a great deal about the society they were living in. I discuss the social, intellectual, and sexual oppression of the female characters, aspects that can help to distinguish the oppression of the real women in the Victorian days. However, in spite of not being portrayed in the same detailed manner as the men, the female characters are anything but insignificant, and anything but Lord Henry?s simple theories.
