This thesis will conclude the education program Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Innovative and Sustainable Product Development. It is a master’s thesis done in cooperation with G. Larsson Starch Technology AB, a company manufacturing equipment for the starch processing industry.
This project will investigate and contribute to the development of a sealing solution for a brand new machine. This machine is a pulp press that so far only exists in the shape of a smaller prototype that has been developed at the Technical University of Denmark. 12 different sealing concepts, including the one in the existing prototype, have been designed and elaborated in this thesis work. Requirements and wishes that will form the basis for the concept evaluation have been determined with regard to both general mechanical aspects and to hygienic aspects due to the foodstuff regulations the starch industry implicate.
G. Larsson Starch Technology AB’s objective is to develop this pulp press to a full-scale machine ready to be installed in starch factories. To take the machine from a prototype stage to the point where it can be used for its intended purpose in the factories requires a lot of work. In addition to solely looking at the sealing solutions, several aspects considering the work related to dimensioning and other up-scaling features will be performed in this thesis.
