The aim of the thesis is to discuss some issues about the organization of cooperative work. This is done from perspectives about participation and motivation in a process of design with people with different backgrounds, involvement and interests. In the WCD-project (abbreviating Wound Care Documentation) we developed a system with peer-to-peer technology in close cooperation with fifteen software engineering students and four municipal nurses from the municipality in Ronneby. As a cooperative project we thought all involved parties were allowed to get a say about the design. But we realized soon that the multiperspectivity provided by the participants and their views of their workplaces were something we have to make room for in the process. We shaped a mediation role with the purpose to organize these different perspectives during the project. We call this role, a mediating designer and took on it because we felt it was needed for the design to be satisfactory for all involved persons that would use the system. As mediating designers we strived against a balanced communication of information between parties in the design, giving it room to contradict and complement with and without our meddling.
