Settlers of Catan is a well known board game for which some computer based players adopting monolithic solutions have been already proposed in literature. Due to its complexity and dinamicity, the search space of the solutions is extremely wide, thus suggesting the use of diﬀerent techniques rather than the traditional AI methods. In this Master thesis we proposed our own implementation of a bot for Settlers of Catan adopting a diﬀerent approach based on the implementation of a distributed solutions: single independent agents are placed in each location on the board, two more agents are implemented in order to provide speciﬁc features and an additional agent has been created with the role of mediator and organizator for the communication. An auction mechanism has been selected for negoziation. Our ﬁnal goal is to show that this approach can achieve good results against other traditional computer based players, and, generally speaking, that the multi-agent approach can be profitably used to model speciﬁc and suitable environments.
