Abstract: This thesis describes an automated approach to modal testing utilizing a robot control to position a laser vibrometer beam. The method developed reduces the time-consuming data acquisition considerable. A double curved aluminium panel was chosen as test specimen. The selected specimen is suitable because it is hard to measure the dynamic properties of these kind of lightweight structures with accelerometers. Results from the experimental modal analysis were compared to the results given from the FEM calculations. An excellent agreement between the two models was found.
