Title of Thesis work
To be a patient during regional anesthetics and surgey.
Overall aim of the thesis
The overall aim of this phenomenological thesis with a reflective lifeworld approach and a caring science perspective is to describe what it means to be a patient during regional anaesthetics and surgery from a lifeworld perspective. The knowledge of this thesis will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of what it is like to live through the intraoperative situation from the patients perspective. This knowledge can be used to further develop care of the awake patient in the intraoperative context.

Professional background/interests
I graduated in 1982 with a University Certificate in Nursing in Karlskrona and three years later I was awarded a Bachelor of Science in General Nursing. I have worked primarly at the Nephrology unit, Visby Hospital, since 1985. My main assignments and field of responsibility have involved peritoneal dialysis mostly related to patient education, information to next of kin and staff education. I Graduated in 2005 with a Master of Science in Caring Science at Blekinge Institute of Technology, and in the fall of 2006 I worked as a teacher at the Karolinska Institute, Gotland University College, Visby.
I was employed as a doctoral student at the School of Health Science, Karlskrona, in spring 2007 and I was enrolled at Växjö University, for my doctoral studies that same year.
