Key Instructors

Göran Broman, M.Sc. Ph.D., Professor, Blekinge Tekniska Högskola. Dr. Broman is Professor and Head of Research in Mechanical Engineering at Blekinge Institute of Technology, Karlskrona, Sweden. Parallel to his engineering education he has undertaken extensive studies in ecology, economy, physical resource theory and other subjects relevant to his commitment in sustainability. He has been instrumental in the development of the framework for strategic sustainable development.  For this pioneering work he has received, for example, The Blekinge Institute of Technology Researcher of the Year Award, The Blekinge County Council Environmental Award, and The Swedish Association of Environmental Managers Award. His present research interests are efficient and sustainable product development.

Karl-Henrik Robèrt, M.D. Ph.D., Adjunct Professor, Blekinge Tekniska Högskola. Dr. Robèrt is an Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Blekinge Institute of Technology, Karlskrona, Sweden. He holds a Doctor’s degree in Internal Medicine from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Until 1993 he was an Associate Professor at Karolinska Institutet, headed the Division of Clinical Hematology and Oncology at the Department of Medicine at the Huddinge Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden and was the Editor of Reviews in Oncology. He founded The Natural Step Foundation in 1989. In 2005, he was named the inaugural winner of the prestigious global award, the Social Responsibility Laureate Medal.

Göran Carstedt, Ph.D, Chairman, The Natural Step (To be confirmed). Göran Carstedt is a leading member of the Society for Organizational Learning global network, dedicated to the "interdependent development of people and their institutions."   Dr. Carstedt is also a consultant and coach to various US and European organizations and serves as Chairman and Board Member in several corporations. He is the former President of IKEA North America, CEO Volvo France and CEO Volvo Sweden.  Dr. Carstedt received his Ph.D. from the University of Umea in 1974.  Dr. Carstedt has direct experience applying the framework in a business setting as a member of the IKEA Group Executive Committee (1990-97) and President of IKEA North America (1990-95).

Richard Blume, M.SLS. Senior Advisor, The Natural Step. Richard primarily works with international companies that are role models in sustainable development. He supports the development and implementation of their visions for sustainability. Before he joined TNS, Richard worked as a Research Associate in strategic sustainable development at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), Sweden. He was part of the management team of BTH's multi-disciplinary masters programme in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability and undertook research in sustainable product innovation. Richard worked in partnership with The Natural Step network to deliver a distance learning programme for managers and product developers in the chemicals industry, and he has lectured on sustainability subjects at BTH and at a partner university in China.

Tamara Connell, M.SLS. Programme Director, Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability Programme, BTH. Tamara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Planning and a Master's degree from the Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability programme (2005/06). She has worked for both the private and public sector, and has a wide range of experience related to community and infrastructure planning/development, First Nation engagement in oil and gas development, waste management consulting, and climate change solutions for businesses. Her areas of interest are personal and group behavioural change efforts related to mitigating our effects on climate change, sustainable community development, and empowerment of individuals to create positive change. In her current role with BTH, she leads several courses on Strategic Sustainable Development and coodinates many of the distance learning opportunities.
