BTH top ranked regarding Sustainable Development

The EESD Observatory ranks Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) as the best among Swedish technical universities and third among the 56 evaluated European universities.

The EESD Observatory is an initiative of Chalmers University of Technology, the Technical University of Catalonia and the Technical University of Delft and is produced as a report within the Alliance for Global Sustainability. Every second year the sustainability work of technical universities in Europe is evaluated and presented in a ranking list. The aim of the list is to measure and inspire activities for Engineering Education for Sustainable Development (EESD).

The sustainability performance in five dimensions is evaluated and graded in the interval 0-2 (BTH's grades within brackets): Research (2.0), Undergraduate Education (2.0), Postgraduate Education (1.0), Embedded Education (2.0) and In-House EMS (1.4). Thus, BTH received a total of 8.4 points out of the possible 10, which resulted in third place. In total 56 universities were evaluated and 21 of these qualified for the top-list by receiving more than 6.0 points. Two other Swedish universities also reached the top-list: Chalmers University of Technology on fifth place and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) on tenth place.

"I am very happy that BTH's sustainability profile is noticed and recognized more and more on the international arena. We started this work in the early 1990's, before it was as popular as today, and we are therefore at the very leading edge now," says Professor Göran Broman.

"Best in Sweden and number three in Europe - that is a result we are really proud of! And we are determined to keep up this good work in research, education and innovation," says Vice-Chancellor Ursula Hass.
