Description:Dollar Street displays the world as a street. The street number is the family income and all people in the world live somewhere on this street (the poorest to the left and the richest to the right). All live on a continuous scale. By clicking the houses on Dollar Street it is possible to make home visit and walk around in all rooms. It is possible to turn 360-degrees around to get the full view. Vital functions of the households are focused (such as electricity, water supply and sanitation). In video sequences people of the household tell about every day life and guide users through the environments.

The framework of Dollar Street will be finished in May 2002 but a draft version is allready possible to use free of charge at Internet. ) The development and expansion of Dollar Street will be evolutionary and the project is planned to be further developed and expanded until 2006.
Purpose:There is a general lack of understanding about living conditions at different income levels in the affluent world. How does a household with a daily income of 1$ per person per day look like compared with a household with a daily income of 10$ or 100$?

New technologies (digital photography, video and 3d modelling) make it possible to produce interactive visualisation of homes that create a feeling of actually being there. Dollar Street will through use of the new technologies create stimulating learning experiences about every day life at different income levels in the world. Dollar Street offers a theoretical framework for evidence based global comparisons everyone can relate to and understand. The possibility to directly link statistics with visual understanding of homes offers a very powerful learning- and advocacy tool.
