REX Adventure

REX Adventure is an adventure-game library for the REX 6000. It provides library functions for simple implementation of Zelda/Monkey island-style games. Note that I really mean a mix between Zelda and Monkey island, the gameplay is supposed to be MI-style and the graphics Zelda-style.

A small example-game (very uninteresting) is also provided. Screenshots from that game under REX Adventure 0.1 and the development snapshot can be seen below (first 0.1, then the snapshot):

The boxes in the development snapshot are only shown in the SDL port (and are there for debugging/development purposes).

New 2004-02-29: I'm working (slowly) on a non-REX port of REX adventure (perhaps for mobile devices). Unfortunately, this will be much larger than the current version, so it will not work on the REX. (But it has color graphics ;-) ).

Development information

The API for REX Adventure is browsable below. I'll try to write a more in-depth introduction to programming for it sometime.

REX Adventure API documentation.

The library has been changed a lot since the 0.1 release. For daring people, a snapshot of the current development can be downloaded. The changes are numerous, for example: the game is now almost fully playable, the events are now specified as regions (not points), the text field has been enlarged and the documentation has been enhanced.

Note that the development snapshot is NOT tested on the REX, and probably does not work there. You have been warned.

Download

REX Adventure is available under the GNU GPL and can be downloaded below.

rex_adventure-0.1.tar.gz (129 Kb)

or

rex_adventure-0.1.zip (209 Kb)

or if you want a binary version

rex_adventure_bin-0.1b.zip (25 Kb)

The binary version above works on the real REX 6000 (a broken one was uploaded at first)

A snapshot of the current developement can be downloaded as well:

rex_adventure-current.tar.gz (157 Kb)

rex_adventure-current.zip (226 Kb)

(New 2003-09-11) a binary of the current state is available as well. Tested on the REX. Note that you must upload both the two .rex-files and the two text files for the game to work.

rex_adventure.zip (8.8 Kb)
