BTH Faculty and Instructors


The BTH Faculty Team focus on core learning competencies related to sustainability, the framework for strategic sustainable development (known commonly in the business community as The Natural Step framework) and its application. In addition, external instructors will provide specialised expertise that is integral to the overall programme.

Dr. Göran Broman is a Professor and Head of the Department for Strategic Sustainable Development at BTH. Dr. Broman has a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Lund. He also studied topics such as ecology, human ecology, economics, resource theory and leadership. He has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and training in strategic sustainable development and sustainable product innovation and has integrated sustainability aspects in technology education. He has worked in the industry with product innovation and advises and trains leaders in industry and society in strategic sustainable development and sustainable product innovation.

Dr. Karl-Henrik Robert is a professor at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development  at BTH. Dr. Robert has a medical degree and a doctorate in internal medicine from Karolinska Institute and has been Head of the Department of Clinical Hematology and Oncology at Huddinge Hospital. Dr. Robert has also been Professor of Physical Resource Theory, Chalmers University of Technology. He has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and training in strategic sustainable development and sustainable product innovation and has, inter alia, integrated sustainability aspects in technology education. He has worked with counseling and training of leaders in industry and society in strategic sustainable development. 

Edith 

Dr. Edith Callaghan is a visiting professor at the Department for Strategic Sustainable Development at BTH (50% BTH-service) and professor at FC Manning School of Business, Acadia University, Canada. Dr. Callaghan has a B. A. in Economics & Political Science from Bennington College, an MA in the Urban & Environmental Policy from Tufts University and a PhD in Business Administration, Management Policy and Strategy from Boston University, USA. Dr. Callaghan has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching based in a social science perspective.

Sophie

Dr. Sophie Hallstedt is pro-Head of the Department for Strategic Sustainable Development at BTH. She has a master's degree in social design from Luleå University and a PhD in sustainable product innovation from BTH. She has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and training in sustainable product innovation and she has, inter alia, developed a masters program in sustainable product and service innovation.

Henrik

Dr. Henrik Ny works at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development  at BTH. Dr. Ny has an MSc in Chemical tech and a Master's degree in Environmental Economics from Lund University and a PhD in sustainable product innovation from BTH. He has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and training in sustainable product innovation and has developed a bachelor program with a focus on energy development for sustainable development.

Merlina_staff

Lic. Merlina Missimer is a PhD student and Programme Director of MSLS at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development at the university with a focus on the social dimensions of sustainability (Doctoral dissertation shortly and is scheduled to continue on a lectureship). She holds a B.Sc. in international environmental studies from Franklin & Marshall University, USA, and a Masters in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology.

M.Sc. Pierre Johnsson works as a program assistant at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development at BTH. He has a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from Carleton University, Canada, and a Master's in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology. He has extensive experience in strategic management work in companies and municipalities. 

 

 Rachael

M.Sc. Rachael Gould is a PhD student at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development  at the university with a focus on sustainability integration at the concept development (design work). She holds a M.Sc. in mathematics and physics gets University of Bath, UK, and a Master's in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology.

  Elaine

M.Sc. Elane Daly works as a program assistant at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development at BTH. She has a B.Eng. in Mechanical and Manufacturing engineering from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and a Master's in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology. She has worked in the fields of International Development, Finance and Health as a coach, trainer and consultant.

M.Sc. Tracy Meisterheim is a lecturer at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development at the university. She holds a B.Sc. experience in education and psychology from Illinois State University, USA, and a Masters in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology. M.Sc. She is also a certified teacher in the Art of Hosting (methodology for the facilitation of co-creation and dialogic leadership from many different perspectives).

 Titta

M.Sc. Patricia Lagun Mesquita is a PhD student at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development  at the university and at the Department of Organization Studies and Cultural Theory at the Institute for Economy and the Environment, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, with a focus on innovation and intrapreneurship. After doctorate is envisaged continued employment at the university (senior lecturer). M.Sc. Mesquita has a B.A. in Social Sciences with a major in Anthropology from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a master's degree in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Institute of Technology. M.Sc.

 Pia

Lic. Pia Lindahl is a lecturer at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development at BTH. She has a master's degree in engineering from Uppsala University and a licentiate in sustainable product innovation from BTH. She has extensive experience in interdisciplinary training in strategic sustainable development and sustainable product innovation and she has co-developed a bachelor program with a focus on energy development for sustainable development. She has extensive experience as an environmental coordinator with responsibility for the development of environmental management systems and has worked to help companies with the development and introduction of environmental management systems. 

Ceasar

Lic. Cesar Levy Franca is a PhD student at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development  at the university with a focus on sustainability assessment and business model design. He has a B.Sc. environmental advice from Fundacao Universitaria Iberoamericana, Brazil, studied Ecological Economics at Schumacher College and Plymouth University, UK, has a Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability and a licentiate degree in Strategic Sustainable Development Technology. He also studied topics such as design science, innovation and creativity. 

George

Dr. George Basile is a visiting professor at the Department of Strategic Sustainable Development  at BTH (50% BTH-service) and professor at the School of Sustainability, Arizona State University, USA. Dr. Basile has a PhD in Biophysics from the University of California Berkeley, USA. He also studied topics such as design science, innovation, economics and management. He has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and training in strategic sustainable development and sustainable product innovation. He has worked with counseling and training of leaders in industry and society in strategic sustainable development and sustainable product innovation.

Tobias

Dr. Tobias Larsson is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the Engineering Faculty at BTH. Dr. Larsson has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Luleå University. He leads (along with dr. Broman) a Technology Center for Sustainable product and service innovation. He has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and training in sustainable product innovation and has, inter alia, integrated sustainability aspects in technology education.
