GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ALL APPLICANTS

Can you tell me whether I am eligible for the course based on … [some of the inquirer’s information included here]?

If you are uncertain whether you are eligible, please fill out the online application and submit the required documents by April 15.  We will determine eligibility based on your application.

 

I am currently finishing my Bachelor’s degree, am I eligible for the course?

To be eligible for the seats sponsored by SI you must be either a) a PhD student or b) teaching at a university in one of the eligible countries. If you do not meet these requirements you can still be eligible to participate in the the course. However, you are not eligible for one of the seats sponsored by SI. Your application will be considered for the seats that are not sponsored by SI.

 

I have not taken a TOEFL, IELTS, or other English proficiency test.  Can I still apply (am I still eligible for the course)?

Yes, you can still apply. You are not required to submit official scoring reports.  All course participants must be able to communicate effectively in English in order to be successful in this program. All lectures, discussions, and course work will be in English, and everyone will be expected to participate.  The level of English necessary to be successful in the program is typically gained from previous (or current) education, career work, or residence in a place in which English is the primary language spoken.

My graduation certificate and transcripts are only available in my home country’s language.  Are official translations of these certificates and transcripts translations required?  Or may I submit unofficial translations?

Please translate all documents into English.  Unofficial translations of these documents will be accepted.

 

 

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS FOR SEATS SPONSORED BY THE SWEDISH INSTITUTE:

If I am accepted to the course do I need to purchase travel insurance to get my visa or to travel to Sweden?

No.  For students who receive the Swedish Institute Scholarships the Swedish Institute provides insurance during their stay in Sweden.

 

If I am accepted to the course, how much will it cost me to apply for a visa?

There are no fees for processing the visa application for students who have been granted scholarship from the Swedish Institute to study in Sweden.   If your application is accepted BTH will write you a letter of invitation which includes the necessary information.

 

I participated in a Summer University in the past, am I eligible to participate again?

No.  Participants from previous Summer Universities are not eligible to apply again.

 

If I want my application to be considered for one of theseats not sponsored by SI, do I need to resubmit my application?

No, you do not need to resubmit your application. If you are not accepted for one of the SI-sponsored-positions you will be given the option to have your application reviewed for one of the non-SI-sponsored seats.

Do you know of any possible funding sources I could apply to that could help me cover the costs for the course?

Unfortunately, the course organisers are not able to assist course participants with finding additional sponsorships.
