Digital Signal Processing is the fundamental tool you need in order to do any kind of sound-, vibration- and image processing. This course gives you the theoretical background that are the prerequisites  for later more advanced and applied signal processing courses, like  Neural Networks   Multidimensional Signal Processing   (Image processing) ,  Adaptive Signal Processing,  Sound and Vibration Analysis I-III , Advanced Filter Design, Optimal Signal Processing Digital transmission and Radio systems and Wireless Networks.  In these courses you learn how to

  • Image enhancement
  • Adaptive Active Noise/Vibration Reduction
  • Advance measuring techniques
  • Practical  usage of Digital Signal processors in advanced projects
  • General specifications digital filter design
  • Adaptive Filters
  • Adaptive Signal Processing
  • Fundamental Digital Transmission

However, in order to be able to study these advanced topics you need the fundamentals that are studied in Signal Processing II and those are:

  • The Z-transform, which is the working tool for all digital signal processing
  • Fundamental FIR/IIR filter design both in Analogue and Digital domain
  • Filter structures, like Direct form I & II and  Lattice
  • Sampling rate conversion, i.e. decimation and interpolation
  • Power spectrum estimation
