If you, for any acceptable reason, cannot attend at this particular time you must notify us in advance to keep your place, please use e-mail: mets-adm@bth.se
-
When arriving, please visit our student help desk (building "Norra flygeln", level 3, close to elevator) for further instructions.

FAQ #3 - Before starting your TRAVEL to BTH
-
To get in touch with a group of older students - please send a mail to arriveee@yahoo.se . This group of students that already are at the programme will log in to this data base of mails. The group will then be able to find your message so they can take care of you new students. When sending your mail to arriveee@yahoo.se please give a short presentation (country, when and how to arrive, etc) so the "old" students easier can find you in the data base. Please don't SPAM the mailbox by repeatedly sending the same mail again and again. PLEASE NOTE THAT ARRIVEE@YAHOO.COM IS CURRENTLY NOT ACTIVE
-
Study the home page of our international office very carefully - especially their arrival guide.
-
You don't need to wait until arrival date before doing you starting the work to find your accommodation
-
If your VISA is longer than 1 year: Apply for your Swedish tax number as soon as possible to get nearly free health service.
-
If your VISA is shorter than 1 year: Visit international office as soon as possible and sign up for a medical insurance. It is very important due to the very high costs at hospitals. (Currently 7 SEK/day - spring 2007)
FAQ #4 - HOW to register courses - a guide LINE
Please note that there are different steps of registration of courses. All steps (!) below need to be fulfilled to complete the registration.
-
Step 1: All students has to apply for courses at a form a number of weeks before the study period (LP1, etc) is starting. The application procedure will be announced by e-mail and at home page of the programme.
- Step 2: The department and the programme manager will check so all students have the right background for each course by checking prerequisite courses at BTH and/or transcripts from other educations. If anything is unclear the student will be contacted. When everything is ok the result will be entered in the LADOK-system (= a system for course registrations and course results).
- Step 3: In some courses the teacher (or the home page) instructs students to make a local registration in a learning management system (example: "moodle", "luvit", "its learning", etc). NOTE: This will not replace any of the steps below or above!
- Step 4: If you later on realize that you will not be able to study a course that you are registerred at - then you must contact our student help desk to delete the registration. There are several reasons why it is not good to have inactive registrations: a) the statistics will be very bad for the programme. (The percentage of fullfilled courses will decrease and this is a quality measure for the programme.)
FAQ #5 - How to register for enter exam - a guide line
-

FAQ #6 - Master Thesis work
-
Start planning for your thesis work very early. Check with teachers at departments for company contacts, etc. Choose teachers in courses that you are interested in.
FAQ #7 - I want to increse my grade at a exam
Many students have asked about how to apply for a reexam for getting a higher grade at a subject. The answer is that this is not possible due to the Swedish law. This means that if you have passed an exam with a low grade, you can never change this. Therefore we advise you to be well prepared for the exam if you want good grades.
FAQ #8 - VISA matters
-
I you need to extend your VISA we will provide a VISA recomendation letter. For shorter extensions (up to approx 6 months) the letter will be a standard letter and for longer extensions we will write a customized letter which will help the Swedish migration board to make their decision. Before applying for a longer extension you therefore need to be prepared before contacting us. We want to know: What courses do you want to study?, What is your goal? (finalize your education, achieving double degree, study extra courses, etc), What the reason for your goal (example: Why do you want to study extra courses), When will your current VISA expire?, etc
-
If you need VISA recomendation letter, transscripts, etc - please be in time - don't wait until the last weeks.
-
It is not possible to apply for a exension of Swedish VISA that will cover a time period when you are planning to do studies outside Sweden (which sometimes occurs when doing master thesis work in other countries). This will sometimes be a problem when applying for VISA in the country where you want to do your master thesis work. However it is fully legal to do a master thesis work outside Sweden if you already have a Swedish VISA. Conclusion -If possible - manage your VISA extension application before planning your master thesis work.
