Student Life & Experience
The Master's Programme in Sustainable Product-Service System Innovation (MSPI) is hosted at Campus Gräsvik, in the city of Karlskrona, the capital of Region Blekinge in the south of Sweden. The city is situated on an archipelago and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique naval heritage.
Karlskrona abounds with cultural buildings and its beautiful natural setting makes it a tourist destination in summer, with regular ferries through the archipelago. The island setting means there is good access to beaches and bathing areas, and water sports such as sailing, kayaking, and canoeing are popular. In the winter months there is some snowfall, though Karlskrona's climate is considered mild compared with more northerly parts of Sweden.
With its 60,000 inhabitants, Karlskrona is large enough to give you necessary conveniences and small enough to provide an intimate and idyllic setting for learning.
With the many undergraduate and postgraduate programmes being completed by students from all over the world, BTH's student life abounds with diversity. There are opportunities to participate in a range of activities from joining sports and social clubs, to DJ-ing at the student bar, to organising events such as international dinners and creative events of all kinds. Studying at BTH can be a special experience in different aspects and one might get more information about this at other pages of the BTH website, but being a student of MSPI there are extra aspects you can expect to experience.
Compared to other programs at BTH, MSPI enjoys a richer degree of diversity not only as in different nationalities but also in professional backgrounds. This becomes evident through projects where different aspects of the issues can be addressed and covered by the team members. Students in MSPI have good opportunities for learning from their classmates who come from many different engineering, industrial design, and realted disciplines.
Within the MSPI community itself, what goes on during classes is only part of the overall experience. The diversity of skills and experiences in each class allows for a variety of self-organised activities and ensure you'll leave Karlskrona with a unique experience and many fond memories. The close friendships formed during the year translate into a strong international alumni network of sustainability colleagues after graduation.
Also within MSPI community, the boundary between academic life and the individual student life is blurred. Almost every MSPI class project and assignment is being done within groups and this helps students to extend their team work skills out of the university also. Many of the MSPI students have defined reactivities outside the MSPI programm and it is expected that some of them would extend it to their prospect future professional life.
Studying in the MSPI program also provides the opportunity to explore the Swedish way of life by learning Swedish, visiting cultural attractions and the beautiful natural surroundings, and exploring the activities and initiatives around the country that make Sweden a leading nation on sustainability. There is a lot of co-learning inside MSPI and MSLS programs on the habits of a sustainable life style.
Partnership with MSPI industrial partners provides several opportunities for different field trips, through study visits and different collaboration with industrial leaders. This gives MSPI a vibrant spirit where studying is at the same time challenging with real world problems and keeping up with top-notch innovations in product-service design.
Every course in MSPI is well planned to make sure it is in the expected limits of study hours. Thus students can be sure that while they are supposed to study hard but also have time to experience life.
