This project is connected to an ongoing research project funded by the Swedish Transport Administration. Within this project, you will evaluate and develop a methodology, for example, based on Markov chain simulation, for the generation of a population of synthetic road users. Special focus is on the modeling of the driving speed behaviour, which can be useful, for example in traffic simulation models. The main data source is GPS records of anonymous road travelers for shorter road segments of approximately 1 km, and an important challenge is how to generate synthetic ”GPS traces” over longer distances than the individual road segments.
A prerequisite is at least one course in mathematical statistics.
Contact persons are Benny Lövström blo@bth.se (only during November), Henrik Fredriksson (hfn@bth.se) or Mattias Dahl (mdh@bth.se) at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, BTH. Note that these proposals are also published at other locations, so please take contact with us at an early stage to show your interest and check the availability.
