There are several opportunities for master thesis projects in the field of frugal innovations.
Frugal innovations aim at doing more and better with less. It can be a low-tech clay fridge or a high-tech portable ultrasound device. Regardless of technological sophistication and maturity, frugal innovations are perfectly suitable in developing as well as developed countries. Frugal innovations play an important role in sustainable development and circular economy. There are many opportunities to undertake projects in this field. Some examples are:
(1) Developing metrics and frameworks to estimate frugality of products, i.e. their ability to do more and better with less.
(2) Designing a product to do ‘more with less’ by using principles of frugal innovations.
(3) Exploring how frugal innovations can support Swedish companies to do ‘more with less’.
There are many other ideas for master thesis projects in this field. Students can also find and work on their own ideas in this area.
