Sandvik Materials Technology, a business area within Sandvik, offers a thesis project in the area of stock location and logistic solutions for tubular products.
The Tube division within Sandvik Materials Technology develops and manufactures tube and pipe in advanced stainless steels and special alloys for the most demanding industries. The division has several production units worldwide, whereof three are located in Europe.
Background and scope of the project
The Tube division is relocating the production of some of its products. In connection with this, there is a need to review the stock location in Europe for the EMEA markets (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The aim is to find a location that provides an optimum customer experience while being cost-effective. The project includes a review of and suggestions for:
- Location of stock for the EMEA markets
- Material flows – from raw material to finished product
- Cost level for stock-keeping
- Work description
This thesis project covers two phases:
- Collect and compile information
Interviews with internal stakeholders
Collect data about the current situation, for example, stock levels, stock locations, inventory turnover, transports and costs
- Analysis and suggestions
Simulate various logistic solutions
Create suggestions for material flows
We are looking for a student in logistics with an interest to try your knowledge and skills in a real project. You need to be curious and have social skills as you will interact with many people, mostly digitally. Fluency in written and spoken English and Swedish is a pre-requisite for this opportunity as well as good skills in Excel.
The project is suitable for a Bachelor’s degree. Depending on the applicant’s study background and interests, it might be possible to transform this thesis work into a Master’s degree project.
