Background

System simulation is a set of techniques for imitating different real behaviours or processes for a product. Models for the purpose describe or display complex interaction between several variables in a system that is used.

In our pre-development, we develop and understand concepts of our product with properties, functions and selected technology – all to minimize various risks in our later rapid cross-functional industrialization

Exploration and early probing with rapid analysis, system optimisation and evaluation of various development alternatives support a more agile approach – Iterative and Incremental. This is to deal with uncertainty in new technologies – such as autonomous, electric and connected vehicles. All to increase the speed of learning, manage different risks and increase efficiency.

Mechatronics, multi-physical and multi-domain – concept development also enables interaction with the system and ”systems of systems” (complete vehicles or systems of vehicles, etc.) and enables the integration of hardware and software in the loop.

Early simulation of concepts does not have the same set of models, tools and needs as simulation for parts and components in verification simulations, they differ in granularity, accuracy and maturity.

Objective:
The purpose is an analysis and assessment of needs and the way forward for early simulations of systems for concept modelling and simulations in a mechatronic, multiphysical and multi-domain environment for exploration and decision support.

Assignment description:
The work is an analysis and evaluation of needs regarding technologies (products / supplier maturity, academia / strategy and industry / applications) and methods, processes, organization and competence impact – clarify current situation and recommendation for future actions.

Education:
Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent. The degree project is aimed at students with knowledge corresponding to specializations such as Integrated Product Development and Vehicle Technology or similar.

Number of students:
2 Individual application or in pairs. (preferably with combining profiles from specializations in the areas of system level modelling and simulation and integrated product development).

January 2022

20 weeks (30 credits).
