If you want to learn more about future communications systems, this programme is for you. It mainly focuses on future communications networks and the problems and challenges these will entail.
The programme deals with issues affecting computer networks, the internet, mobile systems, cloud communications, software defined networks (SDN), user-perceived service quality (QoE), network-based services and research methodology. You will acquire the knowledge necessary for qualified development work within the industry and a basis for research studies through technical knowledge and analytical skills. You will meet and collaborate with researchers within telecommunication systems and acquire a good understanding of the field.

- Entry requirements: Admission to the programme requires Bachelor's Degree (180 credit points) with one of the main areas of electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, information system or computer engineering. Bachelor's degree must include 15 credit points in mathematics, 7.5 credit in data communications/tele communications, where basic layer 2 and 3 communication (TCP/IP) is included, object-oriented programming and English B/English 6.
Specific eligibility in the English language from upper secondary school for non-Swedish students:
TOEFL 575/90; IELTS 6,5 no section below 5.5, or University of Cambridge and Oxford tests.
The objective of the programme is to prepare for qualified development work in industry as well as provide a basis for research studies. The students meet and work closely with researchers in the field of telecommunication systems and will get a thorough understanding in this area.
After graduation, you will be able to apply the knowledge in a range of situations for an analysis of problems as well as creation of solutions. You will be able to select, design and apply a range of complimentary and cohesive tools and concepts in the area.
During the programme you will acquire an understanding of basic definitions and concepts, construction principles and construction methods and the practical application of these within the area of telecommunication systems and computer networking. You will also acquire knowledge of important protocols, methods of system evaluation, current trends and problems in the context of mobile and broadband communications including security.
The studies will mainly be carried out on campus to make it possible for you to work close to the researchers. The programme consists of both theory and practical applications and you will work both independent and integrate in to team as well. The programme will be finished by a master thesis work (30 credit points) which normally will be done in close cooperation with the industry and/or research projects.
In order to get the Master’s degree a student has to complete 90 credit points (1.5 years) courses plus a 30 credit points (0.5 year) master thesis work, totally 2 years. One credit point (högskolepoäng) in the Swedish system corresponds to one credit point in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

This method has the purpose of assessing the applicants’ competency for studies at, among others, the Master Programmes in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering.
BASES FOR RANKING OF APPLICANT
Previous university studies and English.
DETAILS ON BASES FOR SELECTION:
The first step of the ranking process is an assessment of the relevance of the area and specialisation of the applicants’ previous university studies to the applied programme. This assessment is made in three categories: minimal relevance = merit points 0, average relevance = merit points 0.5, high relevance = merit points 1.
Finally, the applicants’ TEOFL or IELTS level in English is normalised to a value between 0 and 1, where 0 is the minimum level to pass the prerequisites of the applied programme and 1 is the maximum level of the test. Applicants’ who are not required to prove their English skills with TOEFL or IELTS tests will get the merit point 1.
These two merit point values are added to a total merit value between 0 and 2
MAXIMUM MERIT RANKING:
A maximum of 2 merit points will be given, according to the above given details.
Applications that are accepted for review based on the basic requirements for the programme will be ranked according to the details above. If not all applicants with the same lowest merit point can be admitted, a preference is given to the gender that is least represented at the programme, and if further selection is needed lots will be drawn.
Prior learning arrangements:
No preparatory studies before the programme start is offered as the basic requirement is a bachelor degree.

In addition to the aims regulated nationally the following aims have been set for the programme.
On completion of the programme the student will:
- show knowledge and understanding in the electrical engineering area.
- show thorough knowledge and understanding within telecommunication systems area.
- show knowledge and understanding of current trends and problems within the telecommunication system area.
- show ability to search, evaluate and use information in an independent way to be able to learn during both future studies and in their professional career.
- show ability to, in an independent way, broaden their knowledge into new areas within the area of telecommunication systems and also have the ability to analyse problems and develop new methods and techniques as well.
Student with a degree from the programme may amongst other things work with following types of duties: Qualified development and / or research studies. The programme is especially interesting for students who want to work abroad.
The programme includes 90 credit points course work and 30 credit points master thesis work. Total duration of the programme is 2 years. The goals of the programme are achieved by means of the courses comprising the programme. Assessment and examination are performed on a per-course basis, and details regarding examination and grading are present in the corresponding course syllabus. During the programme, each course is evaluated and the course evaluations form the basis for further development.
The programme concludes with a written degree project equivalent to 30 credit points.
Programme Evaluation and Programme Advisory Board
On completion of each course within the program, students who has participated in the course will be offered an opportunity to submit their experiences and understandings of the course through a course evaluation, which will be compiled and reported back to the students in the course. The feedback is used in the process to improve the contents and delivery of the programme.
The Programme Advisory Board is responsible for ensuring quality, development and education usability for labour market and consists of each subject area's representative, students, alumni and a representative for the labour market.

Service providers use measurements of perceived quality and like to use positive results for marketing purposes, while negative results are used as input for service development.
