This programme is intended for professionally active engineers who wish to develop their knowledge within the field of management in order to move forward towards new professional challenges, in particular with regard to management duties within projects or line organisations.

We have students from different parts of the world on the programme. By working together on assignments and projects, you will not only gain an increased understanding of intercultural aspects, you will also develop an international network which will benefit you long after you have completed your studies. The programme includes courses within the field of management such as strategy, finance, organisation and leadership.

The programme consists of 60 credits and leads to a one-year Master’s degree.

  • Entry requirements: Degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering, 180 ECTS, including a written degree project equivalent to 7,5 ECTS. 15 ECTS mathematics/applied mathematics and 5 ECTS industrial economics, business administration or equivalent. At least two years of working experience following the degree. Specific eligibility in the English language from upper secondary school for non-Swedish students: TOEFL 575/90; IELTS 6.5 no section below 5.5, or University of Cambridge and Oxford tests.

The programme is a part-time online programme, where you study for a period of two years. You can combine your studies with work, and participate wherever you are in the world, which gives you a very high degree of flexibility.

We have had students from different parts of the world in the MBA programme. By working together with different assignments and projects, you not only acquire an understanding of intercultural aspects of management, but also develop an international network of colleagues and friends, which you can benefit from long after you have completed your studies.

The programme includes courses in essential management areas such as, finance, organisation, leadership and strategy.

METHOD 2 MBA Programme

GENERAL

This method is intended to assess the applicant’s suitability to study on the Internet-based MBA Programme.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Prior education and professional experience.

SPECIFICATION OF SELECTION CRITERIA

If there is a higher number of qualified applicants, than seats in the programme, a selection is made within the group of applicants who fulfill the requirements. The selection method used aims at assessing the applicant’s suitability for studying the MBA programme, based on the applicant’s educational background and working experience.
The first step in the selection process is an assessment of the relevance of the student's educational background in relation to the programme. Points are given, where no relevance = 0 points, some relevance = 0,5 point, and high relevance = 1 point.
The second step is an assessment of the relevance of the student's working experience in relation to the programme, following the same model. No relevance = 0 points, some relevance = 0,5 point, and high relevance = 1 point.
In total, the applicant can get a maximum of 2 points.
Points are given as follows: Education:
Master of Science in Engineering (5 years or 3 years + 2 years) = 1 point
Master of Science within a technical subject area = 0,5 point
Bachelor's degree within a technical subject area = 0 point.
Working experience: Manager, Project Manager, Personnel Manager, Budget and financial responsibility = 1 point
Project participant = 0,5 point
None of the above = 0 point

MAXIMUM MERIT RANKING

The merit ranking is based on an assessment of the applicant’s prior education and professional experience, with the purpose of determining whether the applicant has sufficient preconditions to successfully complete the programme. The assessments from the two selection criteria are added together to a final merit ranking ranging between 0 and 2.
WORKING METHOD
If all applicants with the same lowest merit point cannot be offered a seat, lots will be drawn.

On completion of the programme, students will be awarded the second cycle degree
Master of Science (60 credits).

Learning Outcome

Apart from what is stated in the national degree ordinance, the programme aims at the student achieving the following learning outcomes:
After having completed the programme, the student will
  • have gained knowledge within the main areas of industrial management
  • be able to conduct advanced analyses, based on scientifically valid methods, of complex managerial issues
  • be able to independently frame managerial problems and possible solutions, in an industrial setting
  • have developed an ability to work together in intercultural groups
  • understand the role, responsibilities and limitations of management in the development of industrial organizations
  • understand his/her own role in management, and be able to identify his/her own needs for further improvement of competence in the management area, particularly in industries with a high level of innovation.

Job profiles

The programme is directed towards engineers who wish to develop further within the management area. After the programme many students work as project managers or line managers.The programme has had students from different parts of the world and also specifically deals with intercultural aspects of for instance cooperation and group work, meaning that the students are prepared for international work.
Planning of the education

The objectives of the programme are reached through the courses. Assessment and examination is done in the courses, and details regarding examination and grading can be found in the course descriptors.
Throughout the programme, the courses are evaluated, and the evaluations serve as a basis for development of the programme.

The last course of the programme is a written master’s project (15 hp).

Programme Evaluation and Programme Advisory Board

On completion of each course within the program, students who has participated in the course will be offered an opportunity to submit their experiences and understandings of the course through a course evaluation, which will be compiled and reported back to the students in the course. The feedback is used in the process to improve the contents and delivery of the programme.

The Programme Advisory Board is responsible for ensuring quality, development and education usability for labour market and consists of each subject area's representative, students, alumni and a representative for the labour market.
