BTH and Stanford in joint innovation project

BTH and Stanford University students now start a joint project with the goal of developing an innovative product for a company. The project will be presented at Stanford University in June.

–I’m really excited to again start up an innovation project where our BTH students are working in close collaboration with students from Stanford University´s design programme, which by many is considered as the foremost in the world, says Christian Johansson, senior lecturer in mechanical engineering at the Product Development Research Lab at BTH.

We are working again with Volvo Construction Equipment, which has presented a very interesting and challenging problem for the students. The challenge opens up several interesting solution opportunities where time will only tell which one student advocates. The process that they go through is designed to allow them to develop and build the arguments needed to come up with the solutions that create the most value and novelty for the partner company.

–In this project, the students will build experience in product development in a global context, which makes them well-equipped for similar challenges in their future work-life. My experience is that the teams where BTH students have participated have performed well, and developed products and concepts that challenge existing paradigms in the areas they embark on. It will be very exciting to follow the students on their journey during the next six months and finally see what they are presenting at Stanford University in mid-June, says Christian Johansson.
