STOSIP team made success at the International Conference on Engineering Design in Vancouver, Canada

Researchers from Blekinge Institute of Technology and Denmark Technical University were participating at the International Conference on Engineering Design in Vancouver, Canada, this August 2017. The theme of the conference was “Resource-Sensitive Design”, which encompasses design practice for and in resource-limited societies, as well as recognizes that all design is, fundamentally, resource-limited.

The STOSIP team made success in terms of having three out of four STOSIP papers awarded the best papers at the conference:

Schulte J. and Hallstedt I. S. (2017) Challenges for integrating sustainability in risk management – current state of research. Proceedings of ICED 17: 21st International Conference on Engineering Design, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, August 21-25, 2017.

Rodrigues, V., Pigosso D., McAlonne T. (2017) Building a business case for eco-design implementation: a system dynamics approach. Proceedings of ICED 17: 21st International Conference on Engineering Design, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, August 21-25, 2017.

Schulte J. and Hallstedt I. S. (2017) Challenges and preconditions to build sustainability capabilities in product innovation. Proceedings of ICED 17: 21st International Conference on Engineering Design, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, August 21-25, 2017.

The conference also offered many relevant workshops for the STOSIP team, such as a risk management workshop and a sustainable design workshop. The STOSIP researchers Daniela Pigosso and Sophie Hallstedt were involved in organising and facilitating the Sustainable Design workshop together with Cassandra Telenko (Georgia Tech.) for the Design Society (https://www.designsociety.org). About 35 academics and industrial participants from all over the world actively took part and discussed the question: How to enhance the implementation and dissemination of sustainable design tools?

In total the conference gave opportunities for good dissemination of STOSIP research and collaboration activities. New insights and reflections from the conference will inspire our continues work and future research direction.
