New research agreement in subsea technology

BTH and the Naval Warfare Center (at Swedish armed forces) in Karlskrona expand their cooperation in order to increase competense in the field of underwater technology. Among several things, an industrial doctoral student in underwater operations will be employed.

The underwater area is a high priority by the Swedish Government to increase the operational capability of the Swedish Armed Forces and strengthen the Swedish Armed Forces of competence further.

– It is important for us to ensure that we have a partner with expertise in the field, says Per Jenvald, Colonel of the Naval Warfare Center (at Swedish armed forces).

Industrial doctoral student Mårten Silvanius will focus on the testing and improvement of submarine operations and will be supervised by Oskar Frånberg at BTH. Mårten Silvanius will also teach the subject marine technologies within BTH undergraduate education.

– BTH are happy and proud to be working with the Swedish Naval Warfare School and get an opportunity to develop common interests in underwater technology. Karlskrona is a naval base with unique resources and unique expertise in marine technology, says Vice-Chancellor Anders Hederstierna.

Previous collaborations between the Naval Warfare School and BTH have dealt about maritime surveillance, technology in the area of scuba-diving and the structure and quality in course descriptions and evaluations.
