National Underwater Technology Center

The NUC is a strategic initiative to meet the high demand for expertise in marine and underwater technology. The center acts as a link between research, industry and authorities and strengthens cooperation in the marine sector, especially in the immediate area.

NUC was established in the spring of 2018 and is part of BTH's work to develop research and education in underwater technology in close collaboration with companies and organizations. Other members of the network are:

Purpose and objectives

The NUC has three main objectives:

1. Building a knowledge platform: Establish a cross-institutional hub to address complex issues in underwater technology.
2. Promote collaboration: Create strong links between research, industry and authorities to support development and innovation.
3. Make BTH's investment visible: Position the university as a leading player in marine and underwater technology.

Organisation and management

Director:
Associate Professor Oskar Frånberg leads the NUC and is tasked with developing and raising the profile of BTH's activities in underwater technology. He is also responsible for strengthening cooperation between BTH and external parties. The responsibilities and powers of the director are regulated in a special decision by the rector.

Steering group:
A steering group with representatives from external stakeholders is appointed by the Vice-Chancellor. The group also includes the Vice-Chancellor of BTH and the Director of NUC to ensure strategic direction and collaboration.

NUC is an arena for education, research and innovation in underwater technology. The collaboration with prominent actors in the marine cluster creates opportunities to meet the needs of society and strengthen the region's position in the field. By linking research with practical applications, NUC helps to drive development in underwater technology forward.
