Collaboration with Ericsson
Blekinge Institute of Technology and Ericsson have collaborated since the early 1990s. The collaboration began with a focus on ensuring the supply of skills to the region's IT and telecom companies. Today, the collaboration covers several areas, where students, researchers and Ericsson staff work together to drive development forward.
Education and practical experience
- Every year, Ericsson engages about 50 students in project work in various educational programs. This gives the students valuable practical experience and the opportunity to get to know Ericsson as an employer.
- A large number of students carry out their degree projects at Ericsson every spring semester, with supervision from both BTH and the company.
- Ericsson contributes to the programs through guest lectures, mainly in Software Engineering, with a focus on requirements management and software testing.
Trainee program and staff training
- Ericsson hires trainees to strengthen its development teams and give new engineering graduates a strong start to their careers.
- BTH offers skills development for Ericsson staff through PROMPT, a national initiative to ensure software expertise in industry.
- Within the national graduate school PLEng, the parties collaborate to strengthen industry skills and promote applied research.
"Ericsson, which develops software for operational and business support solutions, has many collaborative projects with BTH. The projects with BTH are easy to participate in and it is an advantage that it is a small university. We recently picked up 30 students from BTH in various internship programs."
Stefan Wilke, Ericsson Karlskrona
World-class research
BTH and Ericsson have collaborated on many research projects, especially in software engineering - an area where BTH is ranked among the top six in the world. The research focus includes:
- Software engineering and multiprocessor systems
- Efficient development processes and global software development
- Balancing business perspectives, architecture, processes and organisation
Ericsson also has a leading role in the reference group for Big Data research at BTH and participates in projects in areas such as cloud technology, virtualisation, machine learning, security and business analytics.
Strategic collaboration
BTH and Ericsson are working closely together to develop new forms of collaboration, strategy mapping and visioning. A common framework for governance and management of collaborations ensures a long-term perspective and efficiency in our collaborative activities.
