University Executive Unit

According to the Higher Education Ordinance, the activities of each higher education institution are managed by a board and a Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for the day-to-day management of the activities under the board.

At BTH, the University executive unit consists of the Vice-Chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor and university director. The Vice-Chancellor can also decide on additional members of the management unit. The unit acts as a support for the Vice-Chancellor but has no decision-making function of its own.

The Vice-Chancellor's mission

The Vice-Chancellor is the head of the university and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the university in accordance with the directives and guidelines decided by the university board.

The Vice-Chancellor is appointed by the Government on the recommendation of the Board of Governors.

The Vice-Chancellor's duties include making decisions on all matters that fall within the remit of BTH, unless the law and regulations state that others are to decide.

Specific decision-making mandates are delegated to other decision-makers through rules of procedure from the Board of Governors and a delegation scheme from the Vice-Chancellor.

Role of the pro-vice-chancellor

The pro-vice-chancellor is the Vice-Chancellor's deputy who acts in the Vice-Chancellor's place when the latter is not in office.

The pro-vice-chancellor is appointed by the Board of Governors. In addition to holding the position of deputy vice-chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor has, according to the Rules of Procedure, to decide on tasks and decision-making powers for the pro-vice-chancellor.

At BTH, the pro-vice-chancellor has a special responsibility for quality and education issues, which are regulated in more detail in the Vice-Chancellor's delegation scheme.

Mission of the deputy vice-chancellor

According to the Rules of Procedure, the Vice-Chancellor may appoint deputy vice-chancellor at the University.

The duties and decision-making powers of deputy vice-chancellor are set out in the rules of procedure and the rector's decision-making and delegation regulations.
