Develop internationally through Erasmus+

Martin Svensson’s experiences with Erasmus+ from Brandenburg

Martin Svensson

(Senior Lecturer, Docent, and Deputy Head of Department at the Department of Industrial Economics and Management)

Could you tell us a bit about your experience in Brandenburg?

It was a rewarding exchange. Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences has a profile similar to that of BTH, both in terms of size and academic focus. It was inspiring to learn about their working methods and to discuss shared educational topics. The academic environment was both welcoming and stimulating.

What was the reason for your visit?

The purpose of the trip was to strengthen the international collaboration between BTH and Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, as well as to explore opportunities for joint projects and exchanges for both staff and students. We have had some students from Brandenburg coming here, but relatively few of our own students have taken the opportunity to go to Germany.

What did you take away from the exchange?

I gained new perspectives on our study programmes and established personal contacts that may lead to future collaborations. It was also valuable to see how another academic culture addresses similar challenges to our own. Thanks to the visit to Berlin, a professor in software engineering will be visiting us in January 2026.

How has BTH supported your international development?

The support has been professional throughout.

What advantages do you see in working at a university with strong international partnerships?

Work at universities is inherently international. For example, around 15 different nationalities are represented within TIEK. However, it is important to have the opportunity to recharge and expand one’s international experience from time to time.

If you were to recommend an exchange to a colleague, what would you say?

An exchange provides new perspectives, inspiration, and opportunities for collaboration that might not otherwise arise. It is also a valuable way to grow both professionally and personally.
