Research-based education means that students are exposed to and trained to critically reflect on problem formulation, methodology, ethics or results linked to scientific or artistic research.
Definitions of the perspectives of research basis, sustainable development, internationalization, gender equality and collaboration have been developed for the university's programmes. The following definition applies to the perspective of research basis in education.

Legal basis: Higher education shall be based on scientific (1) or artistic (2) grounds and on proven experience (HL 1992:1434 Chapter 1 Section 2).
Definition: Research-based education means that students are exposed to and trained to critically reflect on problem formulation, methodology, ethics or results linked to scientific or artistic research.
Purpose: Research-based education aims to provide knowledge and skills based on scientific or artistic foundations, and to promote an independent and critical approach, all as an important basis for students' ability to contribute to personal and societal development.
Realization: Research-oriented education can be realized through research-based course literature, teachers who are well acquainted with the research basis of the subject, and the involvement of students in ongoing research. Undergraduate courses are largely based on established knowledge from previous research, while graduate courses relate more to current research. Research teachers can provide good links to current research.
