Good knowledge of construction materials is essential for an effective product development process. The course will provide knowledge and understanding of the most common construction materials and the mechanisms that control the properties of the materials. The student should learn how material properties are determined experimentally with different testing methods and how the material reacts to the surrounding environment and loads. After completing the course, the student sholud have developed the ability to select suitable construction materials based on loads and conditions of use and, during the process, take into account manufacturing methods, environmental impact, and recycling/disposal.
