What will you study?

You will take courses in industrial economics, management, computer science and mathematics with a clear focus on business analysis. The programme has an interdisciplinary profile and includes courses in, for example, microeconomics, economic analysis, performance management and project management, as well as technical courses in AI, algorithms and computer architecture. You will also have the opportunity to specialise in machine learning, financial analysis or business development. The programme is primarily taught in English and is also suitable for international students.

After graduation – what are your career opportunities?

After completing the programme, you will be qualified to work as a business analyst or strategic advisor in both the private and public sectors. You will have the competence to combine data analysis with economic decision-making and technical solutions. Potential career roles can be found in industry, technology companies, consultancy, startups and government agencies. The job market is strong, and the demand for analytical and interdisciplinary expertise is growing rapidly.

The Master’s Programme in Business analytics at BTH provides you with cutting-edge expertise in business analytics, focusing on both technical and economic aspects. The programme is clearly aligned with the future needs of digitalisation and sustainability, and equips you with the tools to contribute to sustainable societal development through data, technology and analysis.

The programme combines traditional subjects such as industrial economics and leadership with more technical elements like computer science, algorithms and AI. It is conducted in close collaboration with industry, offering valuable insights into practical challenges and opportunities.

Year 1 – Foundation in Business Analytics and Interdisciplinary Competence

The first year focuses on building an understanding of the fundamentals of business analytics and interdisciplinary thinking. Courses such as Business Analytics, Microeconomics for Decision Makers, and Technology-Based Innovation provide you with tools to analyse markets, business models and technological conditions. You will also study leadership in knowledge-intensive environments, industrial organisation, and the commercialisation of innovations.

At the end of the first year, you will progress to courses in economic analysis, performance management and advanced econometrics – all aimed at providing you with practical skills and analytical sharpness. You will also deepen your knowledge of industrial project management and gain a technical foundation through the course Computer Architecture and Algorithms.

Year 2 – Specialisation, Application and Methodology

The second year focuses on application, research methodology and elective specialisations. You will take courses in Applied AI, Research Methods and Design, and Technological Paradigms and Technological Transitions. These courses strengthen your ability to work with large datasets, understand technological change and drive innovation.

You will have the opportunity to tailor your profile through elective courses such as Financial Modelling, Empirical Financial Analysis and Business Valuation. The programme concludes with a Master’s thesis, where you independently investigate a relevant problem in close collaboration with industry or a research environment.

* Elective course

Students who apply for a course or programme, and meet the general and specific entry requirements, compete with one another for available places. When there are more qualified applicants than there are places for an education, the places are distributed through a selection. Read about the selection methods and procedure here.

The study programmes at BTH are continuously monitored and developed through yearly follow-up dialogues, course evaluations after each completed course, and programme evaluations. Results from follow-ups and evaluations can lead to changes in the programmes. These changes are always communicated to the students.

Each educational programme is tied to an advisory board that discusses issues such as the quality of the programme, its development, and relevance for the labour market. In the advisory board, or a committee to the advisory board, teachers, external members, students and alumni are represented.
