Do you want to grow as a leader and unlock more opportunities as an engineer?
The MBA programme at BTH is designed for those with a technical background who want to expand their skills in business, strategy and organisation – in a format that fits working professionals.

The programme is delivered fully online and part-time, making it easy to combine your studies with your job.

What will you study?

You’ll gain tools to lead and develop technology-focused organisations. You’ll learn how to:

  • connect technology, business strategy and leadership
  • make decisions based on financial analysis and long-term planning
  • lead projects and teams with a focus on both innovation and efficiency
  • work strategically with change in complex organisations

Your engineering background is the foundation. On top of that, you’ll build up-to-date knowledge in areas such as:

  • strategy and management
  • finance and investment
  • organisational development
  • business models and entrepreneurship

“The breadth of the MBA programme was really valuable for me. Even with many years of experience, it gave me new insights and deeper knowledge.”
— Lars, MBA student

After graduation – what are your career opportunities?

An MBA from BTH opens new doors – whether you want to grow in your current role or shift your career. You’ll be equipped for roles like:

  • manager or team leader
  • technical project manager
  • business developer
  • management consultant
  • entrepreneur

You’ll be more attractive to large tech companies, smaller firms and public organisations – in Sweden and internationally.

Flexible and close to your work life

The programme is online and part-time, so you can combine it with your job. You’ll be able to apply what you learn right away, strengthening both your learning and your career development.

Eligibility and work experience

To be admitted, you need relevant work experience. You’ll also need to submit a certificate from your employer.

The MBA programme is designed for working engineers who want to take the next step in their career. You’ll strengthen your ability to take on leadership roles – as a project manager, team leader or business developer – and learn how to combine your technical skills with business and strategic perspectives.

The programme runs online and part-time over two years, making it possible to study while working. It gives you the freedom to learn on your own terms – but also the responsibility to plan and drive your studies forward.

Courses that build your expertise

The programme includes six courses and a degree project, all focused on linking technology with business in an engineering context. You’ll study topics such as:

  • strategy and business development
  • organisation and leadership
  • finance and financial analysis

The courses are practical and connected to real-life situations you may face in your career – like leading change, making investment decisions or developing an organisation.

Digital learning with a global reach

The programme is delivered entirely online through BTH’s learning platform. There you can:

  • access lectures and course materials
  • connect with teachers and classmates
  • join discussions and submit assignments

You’ll study alongside participants from around the world. This gives you experience in cross-cultural collaboration and a chance to build an international network – valuable both during and after the programme.

Degree

The programme covers 60 credits and leads to a Master of Science (60 credits). It’s especially tailored for professionals with a technical background who want to grow as leaders, take on greater responsibility and open up new career opportunities.

Courses not announced for the start of this study

Students who apply for a course or programme, and meet the general and specific entry requirements, compete with one another for available places. When there are more qualified applicants than there are places for an education, the places are distributed through a selection. Read about the selection methods and procedure here.

The study programmes at BTH are continuously monitored and developed through yearly follow-up dialogues, course evaluations after each completed course, and programme evaluations. Results from follow-ups and evaluations can lead to changes in the programmes. These changes are always communicated to the students.

Each educational programme is tied to an advisory board that discusses issues such as the quality of the programme, its development, and relevance for the labour market. In the advisory board, or a committee to the advisory board, teachers, external members, students and alumni are represented.
