Accessible reading services

Do you have difficulty reading printed text or need adapted literature? Then there are several aids that can facilitate your studies.

Talking books via Legimus

If you have a reading disability, you are entitled to borrow course literature in an adapted format via Legimus, a digital library from the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM).

Who can get an account? (In Swedish)

Since autumn 2025 Legimus is divided into two parts, one general and one for course literature on university level. To be able to see all available titles in Legimus you must be logged in when you search. Your account must also be connected to a university. Contact the library if you need to move your account to BTH.

How to get access

Book an introduction to talking books with the library. We will help you apply for an account in Legimus and show you how to search, download and listen to books.

Ordering New Course Literature

If mandatory course literature is missing in Legimus, we can order the production of a talking book. Please send the following information to the library:

  • Your name and personal identity number.
  • Course code and course start date.
  • Details about the book – title, author, ISBN.

It takes approximately 8–12 weeks to produce a talking book with speech synthesis. Make sure to check your course literature lists well in advance.

More about Legimus

Want to know more about how Legimus works? Here you can find information directly from MTM:

Listen to e-books

If you prefer listening to e-books, you can do so using a text-to-speech program. The functionality may vary depending on the publisher and title. The text-to-speech program ClaroRead is available to you as a student at BTH, read more under the section Software. Contact the library if you have any questions.

Software

The text-to-speech program ClaroRead and the spell-checking program StavaRex are available for download for students at BTH. Here you will find information on how to get access to these programs and more:

Scan printed text to digital format

All multifunction printers at BTH support OCR scanning. This means that you can scan printed text and convert it into digital text that can be read with a text-to-speech program or processed in the computer.

For larger digitization needs – contact us at the library or BTH's coordinator Lena Wikström at funka@bth.se, and we will help you further.
