Information Retrieval for PhDstudents
The course “Information Retrieval for PhD Students” is open for registration.
Course Description:
- Aim: The course aims to develop your information literacy skills, including the ability to search, critically evaluate, and use information effectively during the thesis writing process.
- Content: Topics include search strategies, information sources, scholarly communication, open access, bibliometrics, research data, reference management, systematic and literature reviews, literature monitoring, and enhancing research visibility.
- Language: English
Course Format:
- Delivery: The course is web-based with some mandatory in-person or online lectures.
- Active Participation: Participants are expected to actively engage in finding and reading relevant literature, completing exercises, writing assignments, and reviewing the work of their peers.
- Examination: The examination is mandatory and consists of presenting your assigned examination task and reviewing the work of others.
Course Schedule:
- Duration: The course runs from week 45, 2025 to week 3, 2026.
- Session Frequency: Sessions are held once a week on Wednesday afternoons. Alternative scheduling options may be discussed.
- First Session: The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, from 13:00 to 15:00 via Zoom. During this session, introductions will be made, and an overview of the course content, literature, and the learning platform will be provided. You will also have the opportunity to present yourself, your research area, and your expectations for the course.

- Application Deadline: Friday, October 31st, 2025.
- Application Information: To apply, send an email to me containing your name, institution, BTH acronym, personal code (Swedish personal number), and the name of your PhD supervisor.
- Attendance: Please inform us if you cannot attend the first session.
