Bronchiole

In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and concomitant cardiovascular conditions, cardioselective beta-blockers reduce mortality and can be used without significant adverse effects on lung function or respiratory symptoms.

Purpose of the study

The aim is to investigate whether treatment with the drug metoprolol (a beta-blocker) in addition to standard treatment for COPD reduces the risk of COPD exacerbations, death and hospitalization due to cardiovascular disease.

Implementation of the study

The study will run for just over a year with regular check-ups with doctors and nurses. In total, the study includes 3 clinic visits and 1 telephone contact.

The study is a collaboration between Region Blekinge and BTH where the visits are carried out at BTH's Research and Education Clinic.
