CONVERGE – Solving the Energy Distribution in Road Construction

Sweden has committed to fulfill the Paris Agreement by reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2045. Transportation in the construction sector as a whole uses 35% of the global energy produced and releases 40% of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere annually. Today, about 6% of Sweden's local emissions come from construction machinery, with construction alone accounting for almost half of emissions.

Purpose of CONVERGE

CONVERGE brings together lessons learned from previous and ongoing electrification projects with the ambition to lead to a large demonstration project addressing identified challenges for major infrastructure projects.

Implementation

The overall objective is to create a system solution for the use and transfer of electrical energy to a fleet of machines through the development and demonstration of a battery swap system for multiple machines.
