NU4DI – Net Based Education for Digitalisation and Industry 4.0
The project is in line with BTH's strategy to expand the recruitment base for distance learning including national and international students, by capitalizing on the engineering and pedagogical skills developed during a multi-year research profile on Model Driven Development and Decision Support (MD3S).
Purpose of the project
In line with BTH's strategic direction, the project should be seen as the first step in a larger initiative aimed at creating a 60 credit online program with high specialization in product and service innovation, in light of the current opportunities for digitalization and sustainability challenges that permeate the university's research efforts. By attracting national and international students, the initiative aims to create an economically self-sufficient set of distance courses in the short term and a self-sufficient program in the long term.
Implementation
This project aims to test the use of hybrid classrooms in the Systems Engineering course. The motivation is to take advantage of such an environment especially for lectures, workshops and exercises related to the course project in collaboration with partner companies. The peculiarity of the industry-sponsored project is that they are often interdisciplinary, and the same challenge can be approached by different students in different courses.
The aim is to create a "hybrid" environment in a so-called Active Learning classroom, where distance students can attend guest lectures, hold workshops or participate in exercises, together with students from other "campus courses", while working on the same underlying industrial project, although focusing on different aspects. This will also be made possible through the integration of tailor-made digital tools for distance collaboration such as Miro, Mural or other system modeling software. This is intended to maximize student-student interaction regardless of their physical presence on campus and thus make learning more effective.
